Job Title: Support Worker
Location: Westcliff on Sea, Essex
Length/Type of Post: Permanent.
Salary: £10 per hour (£11 senior position with level 3 NVQ)
Hours: Full time or part time bank. Shifts- 10am start through to 10.30am the following day. With a Sleep in from 11pm – 7am. ( £35 allowance for Sleep in)
Full time = 10 shifts per month . “Double” shifts on the weekend meaning you will only work 1 in 4 weekends.
You will be working at a children’s care home that currently has three children in their care.
The main purpose of the role of Residential Support Worker is to become part of the Residential family and be committed to ensuring children and young people are safe and healthy and able to make a positive contribution through realising their full potential with a focus on enjoyment, achievement and well-being.
Purpose- “To make a difference to Young People”
Manage the well-being and behaviours of children and young people ensuring any significant behavioural or physical changes are promptly addressed and reported, referring to a senior member of staff as appropriate.
Contribute to the effective implementation of individual programmes by supporting the care, education, social and independence activities and experiences, which enhance the learning and development of children and young people.
Maintain professional relationships whilst developing a good rapport with the children and young people, colleagues, visitor’s and other stakeholders.
Assist senior staff with the compilation of care plans.
Prepare incident and other reports and update daily records and logs as required.
Contribute to the maintenance of safety, security and confidentiality through own professional behaviour, including the adherence to policy and procedure.
Take responsibility for own development and up to date with new and innovative (proven) techniques for children’s services.
Responsibility for the correct handling of petty cash and appropriate expenditure of children and young people’s allowances.
Administration of medication in accordance with policy and procedure where applicable and as required.
Type of candidate that we are looking for
QCF Level 3 Diploma in relevant Care/Children and Young People related area or equivalent (ESSENTIAL)
Experience of working with children or young people in a Residential Childrens Care facility (ESSENTIAL)
Excellent communication, coaching, observational and listening skills.
Effective organisational capabilities.
Preparedness to undertake certified training and refresher courses in a range of areas including Child Protection, Physical Intervention, Behavioural Management, First Aid, Fire Prevention, Infection Control, Healthy and Safety and any other specialist training deemed necessary.
Ability to manage the challenges experienced by children and young people that at times may give rise to unusual or anti-social behaviour which can be very emotionally or physically demanding.
Strong “Can do” attitude.
Preparedness to apply for an enhanced DBS check for Children’s and Young people’s services.
Driving Licence and access to own car.
