Job Title: RGN Nights 

Location: Oxford 

Length/Type of Post: Permanent 

Salary: £22 per hour  

Hours: Bank, Full and Part Time Available. 12-hour shifts, includes working every other weekend. Required to attend 15-minute handover at the start of their shift which is paid shift time 7.45pm – 8am. Can have bank, part-time or full-time hours up to 42 hours per week average (3 shifts one week, 4 shifts the next) 

Our client is rated outstanding by CQC and has a lovely home set in the grounds of a large mature garden with plenty of outside space. Their priority is to deliver the best care possible, with a focus of the happiness of each and every resident.  

Job Overview 

To provide residents with the highest possible standards of clinical and non-clinical care and support, ensuring clinical governance is adhered to at all times 

  • To ensure all aspects of the day to day running of nursing care on a 24-hour basis are achieved and that there is RGN cover throughout the 24-hour period. 
  • To ensure all clinical practices meet the Fundamental Standards, the requirements of the Care Quality Commission, the NMC Code of Conduct and the Company’s own Aims and Objectives. 
  • To ensure each resident receives care according to their individual needs. Ensure that all residents are safe from harm and that any possible/potential or actual concerns regarding any form of abuse are reported immediately to the appropriate individuals/bodies. 
  • The Company operates a ‘one team’ approach, and all staff, regardless of role, as responsible for ensuring each individual resident receives high quality care and support, whilst promoting and ensuring each individual maintains their hobbies, skills and interests. 
  • The post holder will act in accordance with the NMC code of conduct at all times. All employees are bound by the Company rules, which are detailed in separate documents. 

Resident Care and Support 

  • To have day to day responsibility for leading shifts and allocation of duties of staff on our nursing wing, including the day-to-day supervision of the care team 
  • To ensure residents are empowered to fully participate in decisions affecting their lives, embracing the philosophy of person-centered care. To ensure all options are explored in order to ensure resident’s needs, wishes and preferences are met. 
  • To ensure residents are correctly assessed, and that care provided is of a high standard and meets NMC guidance and CQC fundamental standards. 
  • To assist residents who need assistance with personal care as and when required, working with the care team to ensure a one-team approach. 
  • To ensure all residents are provided with the highest possible standards of clinical care and support, including end of life care.
  • To ensure that residents are enabled to fully participate in decisions affecting their lives, embracing the philosophy of person-centered care.  
  • Ensure accurate and detailed nursing and care plan records are kept that are person-centered
  • Create clear and effective lines of communication and working relationships within the Home and with families, other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the residents, to ensure appropriate nursing care plans are devised to cater for their individual emotional, spiritual,physical and material needs.  
  • To liaise with GP’s and other Health Professionals regarding health care needs, reporting any ill health amongst residents and make requests for GP/Professional visits where necessary. 
  • To supervise all dietary needs of residents and ensure everyone’s needs, wishes and preferences are met 
  • Ensure that accurate records are kept for medication, wound care, pressure area care and food and fluid charts. 
  • Ensure that all residents are safe from harm and that any concerns that you suspect, or that have been reported to you, regarding any form of potential abuse or harm, are reported immediately to the General Manager and/or Regional Manager, and instructions followed. 
  • To administer prescribed medicines for the home and maintain the necessary associated records as per NMC guidance and Company procedure, as well as completing ordering and returns. 
  • To liaise with relatives and loved ones as appropriate and required, ensuring records are made of any communications regarding their loved one
  • Liaise with Pharmacists to ensure medication service meets the residents and homes expectations. Ensure that medicines management meets standards and guidance, and all staff practice meets those standards. 

Leadership:  

  • To ensure that treatment advice and recommendations from GP’s, Consultants, Pharmacists, Specialist Nurse Advisors and Public Health are documented and communicated effectively to the resident concerned, staff team and relatives, and that treatment/procedures are carried out with the necessary consent which is fully detailed and documented. 
  • To support staff on shifts to update and keep individual care plans under continuing review and carry out regular care plan auditing to ensure best practice. 
  • To ensure that staff members contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the Home and to the creation of an atmosphere conductive to the best interests of the residents. 
  • To carry out the effective induction, clinical supervision and assessment of clinical staff, including carry out clinical competencies and assessments as required · To act as a role model at all times to other staff in the home at all times, ensuring best practice is always followed and promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement.  

Other:  

  • To undertake initial assessments with residents where required, and work in partnership with residents, significant others and multi-disciplinary teams and to make decisions regarding suitability of placements for potential residents 
  • To arrange for the covering of shifts to ensure safe staffing ratios are maintained across the whole home when required, and if all other avenues have been exhausted to stay until cover has been found. 
  • To maintain an awareness of all routines within the Home and undertake general RGN and care work as necessary. 
  • Arrange, attend and participate in staff and resident’s meetings as and when required.  
  • Create and maintain a high standard, both aesthetically and safe, within the Home. 
  • Assist in ensuring a consistent management approach across Berkley Care Group Homes by implementation and monitoring of all Company policies and procedures.
  • To travel to other sites within the Company if required. 
  • Undertake any other duties as may be required to assist in the smooth running of the business. 

To perform other functions related to the role of a RGN, or as may be reasonable requested by your Line Manager. This is a minimum requirement as a job specification and can be amended at the discretion of the Manager following appropriate consultation. 

Type of candidate we are looking for 

Essential  

  • Active NMC Registration (PIN Number) 
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as an RGN in a nursing care or similar care setting
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, motivate and manage a team of clinical and non-clinical staff 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including IT skills. 
  • Strong knowledge of NMC code of Conduct and standards and the revalidation process 
  • Strong knowledge and skills in promoting Person Centered Care.  
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure. 
  • Strong organisational skills, with a good eye for detail 
  • Excellent communication skills and able to adapt to different levels. 
  • A flexible approach to working hours. 

Desirable: 

  • Previous experience as an RGN within a residential care setting 
  • Good understanding of CQC Fundamental Standards
