Set in 7 acres of garden, Our clients care home has been completely refurbished to a high standard. The new owners are seeking experienced & dedicated staff to become part of an outstanding team providing the highest level of support & compassionate care to residents.

Job Purpose

To manage, develop and support the housekeeping and laundry departments, which may be across more than one home. To ensure that both departments are safe, caring, effective, well led and responsive. Your departments will be compliant with external regulation and follow The company's policies and procedures. A hands on approach will be taken to support the teams that you manage to ensure the care facility is clean, tidy, presentable and free of mal odours guaranteeing the comfort of our residents. All departments will be cost effective in the delivery of high quality care

Duties and Responsibilities

Regulation and Legislation

  • Ensure Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) training is delivered
  • Ensure COSHH safety data sheets available to all departments within the home
  • Ensure personal mandatory training is up to date
  • Ensure all staff within your department have up to date legislative and mandatory training
  • Ensure that housekeeping and laundry paperwork is accurately completed and is compliant with policy and external regulation

Operational Standard

  • Ensure that the housekeeping and laundry departments have a 4 week rota in place, ensuring leave and sickness is covered
  • Ensure that the care facility is presented to the highest to the highest possible standards. All areas of the home are cleaned in line with guidance as set out in the housekeeping manual
  • Support and present a hands on approach to cleaning the facility to ensure The company's housekeeping standards are met
  • Support the laundry staff to ensure that a safe, effective and efficient laundry service is provided to our residents
  • Liaise with chemical suppliers to resolve odours, cleanliness issues or poor wash results
  • Issue clinical cleaning schedules and instructions to the clinical lead and report cleanliness concerns in these areas to the clinical lead and general manager
  • Talk to residents on a daily basis, taking feedback and making the necessary changes
  • Complete housekeeping linen, monthly and annual audit in line with the agreed timescales set out in the housekeeping policy. Ensure damaged or poor quality linen is removed from circulation
  • Ensure that vacuum cleaners, carpet extraction machines, steam cleaners, and dry carpet cleaning machines are provided in good working order. Deliver training in the safe use of machinery to all users
  • Ensure that all laundry machinery is serviced annually and staff are trained in the safe use of washing machines, roller iron, steam iron and tumble dryers
  • Ensure cleaning substances are used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and all staff are trained in the safe use
  • Ensure chemical stores and cleaning trolleys are locked when not in use. Trolleys/chemicals must never be left unattended
  • Ensure that stock levels within the housekeeping and laundry departments are adequate, used effectively and secured at all times
  • Issue chemicals and provide training to the clinical teams to enable cleaning of medical equipment and spillage management
  • Report all maintenance and safety hazards and withdraw faulty equipment from use immediately


  • Maintain a team of bank staff to ensure agency use is only used as the very last resort, seeking authorisation from the general manager
  • Recruit, Train, develop and retain your staff
  • Train and develop care staff in the sorting and return of laundry
  • Optimise staff retention through self development and motivation of your team. Develop your team through in=house training, personal appraisals and job reward schemes and evidence within staff files and training records


  • Adhere to the local safeguarding policy and follow Duty of Candour requirements
  • Ensure your team participates in resident of the day as directed by the General Manager
  • Attend residents meetings, evening and weekend functions as they arise to facilitate a quality service to residents and guests of the home. Ensure feedback from residents meetings is acted upon

Working conditions

  • Bank holiday & weekend working
  • Work hands on alongside team members when staff shortages occur, irrespective of shift patterns or days of the week
