Job Title: Deputy Home Manager
Location: East the Water, Bideford EX39 4PP
Length/Type of Post: Permanent, Full Time.
Salary: £25,000- £28,000
Hours: 40 Hours, 9am-530pm
Job Overview.
Provide support to the Home Manager with the day-to-day management of all aspects of the efficient and effective operation of the Home ensuring that Resident’s remain at the centre of the care provided.
Deputise for the Home Manager during periods of absence.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Support the Home Manager to ensure policy, procedures, practices and work instructions are understood and implemented to ensure the highest standards of care.
- Provide the Home Manager with additional support when completing audits to ensure the compliance and smooth running of the Service.
- To provide additional support to the service and work as part of the Home’s on-call rota where telephone support will be provided when required outside of your normal working hours. In certain circumstances, you may be expected to attend the service outside of your normal working hours to provide additional support/guidance.
- To liaise regularly with head office ensuring necessary information is communicated promptly and effectively.
- Support the Home Manager to ensure maximum resident occupancy levels and where applicable, attend assessments to assess suitability of new placements looking at joining the Service.
- Support the Home Manager with visits, showing potential residents and their families and friends around the Home, as required, and discussing the philosophy of care and the activities of daily living skills.
- Support the Home Manager, or in their absence, deal with the admission of residents to the Home. Ensure their comfort and allay any anxieties they may have. Ensure all appropriate resident details are taken and those pertinent to the better care of each resident.
- Promote effective communication and relationship building between all staff, residents and third parties.
- As necessary, liaise with the Care Quality Commission, Local authority and Fire Authority to ensure satisfactory standards are maintained at the Home and any required notifications to be submitted in a timely manner. Reviewed May 2020
- Ensure that all record keeping required by the Care Quality Commission and other governing bodies are consistent with legislation and maintained.
- Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and staff around the Service. If any concerns to report to Home Manager/Head Office without delay.
- Support the Home Manager and, when necessary, be responsible for good liaison with all health and social care professionals associated with resident care.
- Undertake care tasks on a regular basis as required by the needs of the Home.
- Contribute to the care planning function and support the Home Manager in ensuring that all care planning reflects current and best practice and that all staff are able to participate appropriately.
- Ensure that the Company Complaints Procedure is understood, publicised and applied in a way that allows residents to have their complaints dealt with in an open and honest way without fear of victimisation.
- As directed by the Home Manager, or in their absence, investigate any complaints or adult protection concerns raised by residents or relatives and report them as appropriate.
- As directed by the Home Manager, or in their absence, investigate all injuries sustained by residents while in the care of the Home. Report all serious injuries as appropriate.
- Along with the Home Manager, provide professional and managerial support to all staff within the Home.
- Be responsible for ensuring all administrative functions associated with management of the staff are completed correctly.
- Support the Home Manager in delivering staff supervisions
- Provide additional support to the Home Manager when staffing issues arise by conducting investigations, holding meetings such as welfare meetings where appropriate.
- Support the Home Manager with the recruitment and selection of staff, ensuring that they are recruited in accordance with organisation’s policies and procedures and external legislations.
- Implement training and development plans to raise the skills and competencies of team members to ensure they have the ability to perform current and future roles.
- Ensure that all relevant staff are aware of the legal requirements in relation to the administration of medication.
- Provide support to the Home Manager to ensure the duty rota is planned and maintained so that it is appropriate to meet the needs of the residents and makes the best use of available staff within agreed budgetary limits. Reviewed May 2020
- Ensure all staff complete the Company and Statutory requirements regarding induction training.
- Ensure that health and safety standards are maintained in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures by carrying out frequent walks arounds of the building to highlight any maintenance issues, inspect the cleanliness of the Home and upkeep the safety and security of the building.

Type of candidate that we are looking for
Someone with prior experience of managing a similar service.
Ideally NVQ Level 3 but not essential
